Romanesque Churches
Only few Romanesque architecture has been preserved in its original form. The oldest example is the crypt of the monastery church of Göß, built around 1,000 AD. Seckau shows most clearly the appearance of a Romanesque monastery church. Many Styrian churches have impressive Romanesque architectural elements: e.g. »village basilicas« have been preserved e.g. in Pöls, Hartberg, St Lorenzen in the Mürztal or Spital am Semmering. Choir tower churches are widespread, such as in Weiz-Tabor, Piber, Oberwölz, Kobenz, Gaal, St Georgen ob Judenburg, St Ruprecht/ Bruck a.d. Mur and Fohnsdorf. Choir tower churches can also be found in Pürgg or Dietmannsdorf. Among the charnel houses, the one in Hartberg is most the beautiful.
