Marian Pilgrimage
Legend has it that Our Lady called out »hic seca« to Adalram in a dream. Then he cut down a tree and found the stone image of the Virgin Mary. The Byzantine-style stone relief created around 1200 AD in Veneto has been the destination of many pilgrims for centuries who were not allowed to enter the Basilica but were much closer to Our Lady than we are today: Once they had kissed the stone relief, an indulgence of sins was declared. Our Lady of Seckau has been called »unsere liebe Hausfrau« down to the present day and is still taking centre stage in many instances of private devotion and small pilgrimages.
